How to get a Hong Kong ID card for a child who was born overseas??
作者: gridiron_16    時間: 2011-6-13 12:34 PM

are the child's parents by any chance HK citizen?

Yes, they still hold their valid HK id card, but they acquired other citizenship prior to the child was born.

Have you look at HK Gov website?
http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/i ... c/registreplace.htm
It should tells you how to do it.
Mind you, both you and the kids must return to HK to apply.

If both parents are settled in overseas, their child will not be able to apply for HK ID card.

and your child/children must return to HK (at least for a day) in every ?? years in order to keep the right of abord. The ID card won't have 3 stars unless has been living in HK for 7 years

My daughter was born in HK, we brought her overseas when she was 10 months old.
She got her new Smart ID card recently but does not have 3 stars, why?
I think she should have a 3-star ID card because she was born in HK although she had not been in HK for 7 years.

Yes, I ever thought that the child who was born in HK should get *** HK ID.   However, as I heard,  there is another situation that if the child was born after July 01, 1997
and in the mean time  the child had the citizenship of other country , this child will be treated as non-Chinese and be issued one *HK ID instead of ***,  the holder of *ID need to go back to HK
within 3 years (every 3-year back to HK),   once over 3 years, the holder will lose the right of permament residence.
