Raxit, the Uighur exile group’s spokesman, sharply disputed the official accounts. He said the incident began when people gathered at Hotan’s grand bazaar for a planned protest. Police broke up the rally, and 13 Uighurs were arrested. Raxit said the angry protesters then moved to the police station and a commercial office next door.tvb now, tvbnow, bttvb: K: `4 F; t2 p1 P0 L9 h- N- p

The violence in Hotan, which is next door from the Pakistan border, left nearly 20 dead on Monday, it is now being revealed. The incident showed that Communist Party of China's close relationship with the Jamat-e-Islami and its protective attitude towards Pakistan have both failed to insulate Xinjiang from separatist violence. , h j9 W- ^, n6 T$ x3 ^4 F & O4 L% e K- ^" y; P* b tvb now, tvbnow, bttvb$ W: m0 R' V' `/ Y6 V

The World Uighur Congress may have good reasons for not mentioning Pakistan, because the country provides agitating Uighurs a training base and regular supply of arms to fight the Chinese authorities.. h5 b1 { Q$ i
