1) screen - screen saver would protect your screen
2) hard disk. it would reduce the life. it like the car engine running. you can change the power supply on the desktop property areas.

waste your energy, and as previous post shorter the life for the harddisk and power supply, if your energy saver had switch off the power for mon will be better otherwise will let to your mon overheat, shorter the life for the mon and case black spot on the screen
