哥倫比亞第二大城「曼德林市」(Medellin)是貧民聚集的地方，政府為了改善該情況，特地花了700萬美金(約2億1千萬台幣)打造「貧民電梯」，讓市民擁有更好的生活品質。

據《中央社》報導，「曼德林市」中的第13區，緊靠山壁，有1萬2000名居民每日若是從住家到市中心出入，得花上30分鐘的時間，攀爬接近28層高樓的階梯。不過，「貧民電梯」啟用後，可將近半小時的路程縮短為6分鐘左右。

工程負責人凱薩(Cesar Hernandez)表示，這座電扶梯總長384公尺，分成6節，可以幫助區民有更便利的交通。市長沙拉薩(Alonso Salazar)則說，從沒聽過世界上建有類似的電扶梯，可以啟用「簡直太棒了。」

Oh well, I admire the thought of this but if it were up to me, I will spend the 7 million to make sure that most of the kids have school to go to and basic necessities are supported such as electricity and food. Elevators need to be maintained and it is quite costly ! Government policy makers should have used the money more wisely !
