130 MPH V8 Engine

'Fast Food' - A Dining Table With Serious Wheels!

ByMeera Dolasiaon09/17/2010

British inventor Perry Watkins is a car buff - However, unlike other fans, he does not collect classics or crave for fast vehicles. Instead, he focuses on getting into the record books for the most unusual ones - like world's smallest and lowest cars, and now, for turning a Queen Ann dining table into the world's fastest piece of furniture.
Aptly named 'Fast Food', the speedy furniture, which took a year to build, was fitted over  the chassis of Reliant Scimitar Sabre sports car with a 3.5 liter V8 engine. The unusual vehicle was then given a boost with nitrous oxide, which enables the engine to burn additional fuel and air, resulting in more powerful combustion.
Perry then attached six chairs, adorned the vehicle with a beautiful table cloth, silver place settings and placed a dummy driver dressed in a racing outfit complete with helmet, at the head of the table. With two of the napkins camouflaging the brake lights, the champagne bucket stuck with the legal road license and two silver teapots standing in for exhaust pipes, he was ready to go!
On September 5th, seated in the driver's seat, with his head popping out right in the middle of the table, Perry got ready to break the record for the world's fastest furniture. And break he did - Fast Food completed the 500m track of Santa Pod, Nottinghamshire not once, but twice, reaching a top speed of 130mph. With an average speed of 113.8mph it handily beat the previous record holder, a sofa, that had averaged a mere 92mph. To read more about this fun vehicle go to
