BARACK OBAMA is to announce that the US will begin rotating Marines through an Australian base in Darwin in a permanent new military presence, intensifying the alliance in a sign of heightened concern about China.

He is scheduled to make the announcement with the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, when they visit Darwin next Thursday during Mr Obama's first visit to Australia as president. The 26-hour visit will mark the 60th anniversary of the ANZUS alliance.

Like the bases in Okinawa, they were built on the best land in the island. There are constant conflicts between US servicemen and the local residents. The crimes committed by the US soldiers fall outside the jurisdiction of Japan and they would be put on trial in US military courts which frequently pass out very lenient sentences. Thank you felicity for your comment.  It might appear that I am very against US, it is partly true, nearly all of their foreign policies are absolutely noxious.
On the other hand, many of my good friends are from the US; and I fully respect and admire those political intellectuals and artists who are living there.公仔箱論壇. j9 b8 J1 u' B0 o6 E
One thing about the US:  people are allowed to speak their mind openly without worrying too much of the subsequent consequence.
