RAFA: GERRARD BEST IN HIS POSITION

Benitez ranks his skipper among the top five players on the planet – and the best at driving forward from the centre of the park.
Proof – if needed – came this week as Gerrard netted for the 100th time in a red jersey.
"It's a really good achievement, especially when you talk about a midfielder. As a midfielder going forward, he is maybe the best in the world," Benitez told journalists at his pre-City press conference on Friday.
"And if you ask me how many players there are in the world at his level, I'd say four or five."
Gerrard has helped the Reds enjoy their joint best start to a Premier League campaign including victories over Manchester United and Everton.
Liverpool have also claimed successive wins in the Champions League to put them level with Atletico in Group D.
But asked if his side were playing at optimum level, the Anfield boss responded in typical fashion: "We can still improve – there is plenty of room for improvement."
Meanwhile, Benitez again responded to reports linking Real Madrid with a move for Daniel Agger.
"There has been something in the press about Real Madrid but I have spoken to people there and they've already sent a fax saying it's not true, they're not talking to or interested in the player," he said.
"They know he is good but they have enough centre-backs. We knew before that it wasn't true but it's even clearer now.
"He wants to stay, he's happy. He wants to play like every player does but he is okay and he'll fight for his position.
"Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel are playing well, so he needs to fight." [/td][/tr] |
