The striker received a standing ovation after being substituted on 75 minutes against the Dutch champions following a classy strike which ended a 10-game goalless run.

However, just as netting a first goal was more a concern of the press than Keane himself, the Ireland international is not getting carried away now his dream of scoring for Liverpool has been fulfilled.

"To score my first goal for the team I supported as a kid and to get a standing ovation when I came off, it was a great moment," said the 28-year-old.

"It's nice to get the first goal out of the way.

"The fans have been incredible and I hope I've paid them back a bit - but there's still a long way to go and hopefully a lot more goals to come."
