Xabi Alonso - should he be Player of the Year?

I'vejust been reading on the BBC website about Alan Hansen (amongst manyothers) banging on about Ryan Giggs being player of the year thisseason, apart from the fact that I think this is ridiculous consideringthe bit part he's played this year ( i might be wrong of course, Idon't take much notice of the mancs!), I noticed the odds from betfairand that Gerrard was the sole inclusion in the "favorites" list.

Thereason I think that Alonso is worthy of a mention is because I thinkhe's been far and away our best player this season, and I think he'sbeen the man who makes us tick, its no coincidence in my opinion thatwe seem to toil and struggle when Alonso isn't on the pitch.

Ifwe go on to win the title in May, and Alonso continues his form, thenhe will be one of the main reasons that we win number 19, surely he'sshould be considered??
