Motion-picture musical about an orphan boy living in the streets of London, England, during the 19th century, based on the often-filmed 1960 play by Lionel Bart adapted from the novel Oliver Twist (1837-1839) by Charles Dickens. Oliver! was also the last musical to win the Best Picture Oscar until Chicago 34 years later.
