Thousands of troops having to step in as Olympic guards after G4S failed to train enough staff have had all their leave cancelled - and they've been 'rewarded' with tickets to the dress rehearsal of the opening ceremony.

This morning it emerged that G4S made repeated assurances to ministers just two weeks ago that they would be able to supply all the guards they promised to deliver.

Mrs May distanced the government from the firm saying that its contract was with Games organisers Logoc which would be responsible for imposing penalties. Home Office minister James Brokenshire said that the problem about the shortfall of guards - needed to conduct physical searches, operate X-ray machines and carry out perimeter searches at the Games - first arose 'about a fortnight ago'.

'We've been monitoring progress, challenging them (G4S), asking the questions, really going down and kicking the tyres and all those things, and they have been very robust about the fact that they would deliver on the contract,' he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.公仔箱論壇( W* ?* k& T* C( A1 K

A police authority has suspended its part in a privatisation scheme following the failure of plans by security firm G4S to provide enough guards for the Olympics.

'The decision was to suspend the business partnering programme, and the authority is minded to withdraw, subject to a paper that is going to come to a public meeting on September 6,' he said.

Mr Hartley went on: 'Although by definition the lone wolf threat is unpredictable, with individuals potentially motivated by any number of causes, in the UK the clearest threat is posed by aspiring jihadists who align themselves with the transnational militant Islamist movement.'

Police and intelligence officials are understood to have picked up an increase in chatter, but there is not thought to be any intelligence of a credible plot to attack the Games.
