人們在她的辦公桌上發現她留給警察的一封信
「局長閣下，我受理的案件不用繼續偵查了，其兇手就是樂曲《黑色的星期天》。我在聽這首曲子時，
也忍受不了它那悲傷旋律的刺激，只好謝絕人世了。」

無獨有偶。美國紐約市一位開朗活潑的女打字員與人閒聊時，聽說《黑色的星期天》如何使人傷感，便好奇地借了這首樂曲的唱片回家聽。

English translation of the original
The original song was written in 1933 by two Hungarians, Rezso Seress (music)
and Laszlo Javor (lyrics), and consisted of the first two stanza tvb now,tvbnow,bttvb) m: \# \( d" L# G7 s; K2 K6 P
only -- the last stanza was added later, also first in Hungarian,
as Zoe Orosz from Hungary pointed out to me.

Actually, the second part of the song in Hungarian is not so reassuring at all. 9 F, `; z" f. E2 D: }
It is if at all possible, much gloomier than the first two stanzas, almost apocalyptic. 2 ]# V" ~' A" @& P5 Z( u# ^8 `
It looks like the pessimism of the song was too much for the translators and they made their translation a happier one. tvb now,tvbnow,bttvb) V2 M) R1 a6 V2 E3 n- e( B
In that case one might argue that the translator has done a bad job www2.tvboxnow.com2 \; g6 |  @/ o' y& u! T0 b% H
and 'ruined' the song, or in other words: a translator has to maintain the original spirit

a translator may also be more than just a translator and based on the original create a new song.
Perhaps the Sam Lewis mentioned in the credits is responsible for this. 1 d  s. ?5 d6 z* `' n6 h% A4 y

Zoe Orosz also made a translation into English of the original Hungarian song, adding:
It looks like Javor wrote the first part and Seress the second. It is very-very gloomy.
It seems to refer to the horrors of a war at the end.
I'm glad that there's an English version that makes it less terrible. To be honest, ' W" c  K( p2 D' R" O
I don't think it was ruined at all. We are a very pessimistic people,

the second part may have been added after the Second World War.

One thing is very strange, though. The mood changes between the second and the third stanza, www2.tvboxnow.com; Y* m/ M5 f, c* D( n8 t
because she wakes up and realises that the gloomy first two stanzas were nothing but a dream and the third stanza is then more chearful.

the pause is less than a second -- Sarah has barely enough time to catch her breath.
I would have expected the change in mood between stanzas two and three to be build up a little more gradually,

Hazan suggested that the last stanza could still be part of the dream: the singer has lost her lover,

"I find you asleep in the deep of my heart", not next to her in bed.
I do not think this is what is meant here. The change of mood, the use of the words tvb now,tvbnow,bttvb! Z3 c+ y4 ?/ n2 g5 J
"I was only dreaming / I wake" and also the lines "I hope /   h' v3 z( A0 g3 z
that my dream never haunted you" make me think that the singer has woken up " r! z0 f- p% O) g! L& v1 \
