They had cast their nets out in Guwahati when  they noticed 500 (£5) and 1000 (£10) rupee notes floating in the  water.

News of their find spread like wildfire and  it wasn't long before dozens of locals were diving in to grab as much as they  could.

Others turned up with fishing nets and stood  on the banks of  the swamp trying to catch the floating notes.

One man, who was pleased with his 1,000R  catch, told a local newspaper:  'People are throwing away the fishes and  collecting the money.

It is not known how the money came to  be in  the water and police are trying to trace the source of the money  to find out if  the notes were genuine.

City Senior Superintendent of Police, Apurba  Jibon Baruah said: 'The investigation is likely to take some time.

印度東北部的古瓦哈蒂市一群漁民日前釣魚時發現湖面漂著大量面值為500盧比和1000盧比的鈔票，「好消息」迅速傳遍全村，當地人紛紛趕來撒網「撈錢」。
