; @/ u1 ]# J8 M% z3 y公仔箱論壇On 30 March 2004, A1 Grand Prix, a brand new concept in international motorsport was launched to the world’s press at the prestigious Jumeira Beach hotel in Dubai. Series’ founder Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum unveiled his vision for an exciting yet accessible sport where all countries would compete on a level playing field. From this spark, grew A1GP, a series with deliberately equalised technology and national teams, racing their country flag in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.

4 y5 {. [  P7 V7 q4 g( d. RFrom March 2004 onwards, Sheikh Maktoum and his business partner, Tony Teixeira, set about building the team that would bring this exciting concept to reality. British firms Lola International and Zytek Engineering were appointed to develop the chassis and engine respectively, based on the initial drawings of Sheikh Maktoum himself while US company Cooper Tires was chosen as the official A1GP tyre supplier. By July of that year, the first generation of A1GP race cars was ready to be unveiled.

Before any of the teams arrive at the circuit, it is the responsibility of A1GP Operations to organise the safe arrival of the cars and begin unloading the A1GP freight. There are on average 20 people at each circuit solely dedicated to unloading the A1GP freight. This comprises of three A1GP Operations staff, a local customs co-ordinator, two airload masters, four freight masters, four fork lift drivers and various truck drivers. It takes 40 trips from airport to circuit to fully load and unload the A1GP freight. The cars usually arrive at the race track the week before the race and set up in the paddock commences on the Monday before the race weekend. Set up takes approximately three days.

The packing and loading of the cars and equipment takes around two days.

The team need to plan exactly when the best time is to pit - depending on the strategy of competitors and traffic on the track. A driver will press the pit limiter as the car crosses a line at the entry of the pit lane, which will quickly bring the car down to a speed of 60km/h. If a car exceeds the speed limit, the team will be fined and the driver will incur a drive through penalty. Pit stops therefore, make up an integral part of the race strategy.

The Sprint race begins with a rolling start. The pace car pulls off the track into the pit lane at the end of the lap, leaving the car which qualified on pole position leading the field. On track there are a few key regulations. A car’s rear light must be illuminated at all times when running on wet-weather tyres. Should it become necessary to stop a race because the track is blocked by an accident or because weather or other conditions make it dangerous to continue, the Clerk of the Course will order a red flag to be shown at the start/finish line. Simultaneously, red flags will be shown at all Marshals' posts.
