事實上，以現今科技，即使是一部智能手機、一輛巴士，只要能夠接收得到GPS（或電訊公司發射站）的訊號，訊號又沒有地形或建築物阻擋接收，而系統本身又沒有被關閉，就已經可以計算得出大概位置。不少行山失蹤市民都是以這種辦法被尋獲，而巴士公司亦有利用GPS系統得知巴士的大概位置。
