very informative. thank you for sharing.  this is excellent protocol and commonly practiced in asia.

the only different common practice amongst americans is once you received the business card from someone, you read the card for a few seconds and then put it in your shirt pocket.

placing the card closer to you heart symbolizes you want to work closer with him/her in the future.  laying the card down on the dinner table could be interpreted as you don't want anything to do with this person.

just a small thought based on my experience working on both side of the word in the past.
