[硬碟] Question Regarding External Harddisk

Hi all experts please help to answer my question...

1. I got a external SATA 3.5" HDD newly bought and when i plug to my laptop, it do detect the HDD but i cannot access it. It does not assign a drive to it. may i know why?

2. I believe the different between the SATA HDD and IDE HDD is just the speed and its connection. Since it is External HDD it should be plug and play with USB. Does it have requirement like for SATA external HDD need to connect to PC/Laptop that SATA enable only?

Your new harddisk maybe not format yet, so windows not assign a drive for it!
To format it go to Control Panel ->Performance(XP)/System(Vista) and Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Storage->Disk Management and select your new HDD drive right-click format. After format, windows will assign a drive for it!

Q2 - the only requirement for the external HDD are USB port and driver (for win 98 and older) only, regardless SATA or IDE external HDD.
